The ACTS movement came to birth from the Cursillo Movement through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas. ACTS began in 1987 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, Texas, and was brought to the Beaumont Diocese in September 2001. St. Francis of Assisi started our ACTS retreats in 2006.
What is an ACTS Retreat?
An ACTS retreat weekend is a three day, three night Catholic lay retreat presented by fellow parishioners like you. The weekend begins Thursday evening around 6 PM and ends with a Coming Home Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Francis with a reception for retreatants, their families and members of the Faith Community. Transportation is provided to and from the Holy Family Retreat Center in Beaumont, Texas.
Purpose
An ACTS retreat strives to achieve the directives of Vatican II and the goals of the Revised Code of Canon Law of 1983 to place more emphasis on Community and Pastoral Care within a parish. The participants experience God's love and joy throughout the weekend, and return to their parishes with a deeper love for each other and the team members, and a desire to become more involved in the parish faith community. St. Mary's of Orange and St. Helen's of Orangefield are partnering with St. Francis to bring ACTS to their communities. The three parishes make up the core of team participants that conduct the ACTS retreat. Through this partnership, each year our parishes sponsor two retreats for men and two retreats for women. The Beaumont Diocese also sponsors yearly retreats for teens.
The Message of ACTS
ACTS is an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service. These four themes are the focus of activities for the retreat weekend, patterned after the description of the early church in Acts of the Apostles 2:42-47. "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to communal life, to the breaking of bread and to prayers. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved."
